Extenders

Extenders in audio visual and networking are devices that allow you extend your signal beyond it’s normal limits, sometimes up to several hundred feet. An extender solution typically includes a transmitter and receiver and can be a wired or wireless device. There are extenders for most major signal types including VGA, HDMI,DVI, USB and more. Some will extend multiple signals with one system though cross talk can be an issue with wireless versions.

Buying Tip: Know which video signal type (VGA, DVI, HDMI etc) you want to extend. Wired extenders use different cable mediums to extend the signal. Cat5 cable is a popular choice for it’s good quality and inexpensive cost. Fiber is a sure bet but very expensive and is only recommended for the most critical applications. Signal degradation over distance is a primary concern with any extender system. Extenders can have a major impact on your final image quality so be sure to check the specs. As always, choose the product best for your application.
